International Students at Prince Alfred College

Prince Alfred College is one of Australia’s leading schools for boys through the Preparatory School (Reception - Year 6) the Middle School (Years 7 - 9) and the Senior School (Years 10 - 12). We proudly acknowledge 140 years of tradition in education, and now embrace a contemporary education based on the International Baccalaureate curriculum.  Prince Alfred College offers boys and young men an outstanding education in a beautiful environment near the centre of Adelaide, only 15 minutes by car from the Adelaide International Airport.

The aim of ‘Inspiring Excellence’ is seen across the life of the School. This holistic education focuses on academic achievement, together with sport, the arts, technology, community service and leadership opportunities. We offer a wide range of co-curricular activities.  Pastoral support and care of our students is a priority.

We welcome cultural diversity and international students enrich our School in many ways. This global outlook produces students who are truly citizens of the world. Many international students achieve outstanding academic results in both the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBD) and South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). Most Year 12 students gain first round offers to the University of their choice, popular courses being Medicine, Law, Commerce, Health Sciences and Engineering.

Main Countries of Origin

We currently host students from China, Hong Kong,Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Student Services

A wide range of support and pastoral care is available for International students. The International Students Transition Program (ISTP) is situated on campus and provides international students with intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) studies and cultural support, while being part of mainstream classes. Our International students are supported by Asian and English language speaking coordinators and staff, mentors, tutors and student counselors.

Accommodation:

Both boarding and homestay accommodation is available for international students. Prince Alfred College offers safe and welcoming boarding facilities for students in Years 7 to 12. Rural Australian and international students mix as part of the School community. Our boarders enjoy the extensive grounds and sporting facilities on campus and take part in a range of sporting and recreational activities.

Pathways to University

We offer two pathways to tertiary study – the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) and the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). Vocational Education and Training (VET) for those students who seek to move directly into the workplace is also available.

Orientation

Students are met by our International Students’ Coordinator and partake in a number of activities and programs that enable them to integrate into the School and wider community. Ongoing care and support is available for International students.

ENROLMENT POLICY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WISHING TO ENROL AT PRINCE ALFRED COLLEGE:

  • The student must sit the AEAS test* (or provide Test results from a reputable testing service) and results sent to PAC with the application form, along with copies of most recent school reports from the student’s current school.
  •  These results will be assessed before we process the application and we will decide if the student is a suitable candidate.  AEAS organise the test in conjunction with the agent or parents, and send results to us.  NO INTERNATIONAL student application will be processed without English test results.
  •  This test also recommends the appropriate length of time the student should spend in our International Student’s Transition Program. (ISTP)
  •  Students cannot commence year 11 mid year, they must start their course at the beginning of our Academic year  which is usually in February of each year.
  •  Once the enrolment has been approved, the application will be processed and a Letter of Offer will be sent to you, clearly stating the enrolment status of the student.
  •  Once payment has been made, and confirmed by our Accounts department, and eCOE will be issued to the Agent so that the Visa process can be finalised.  A copy of the original eCOE will be faxed to the Agent, and mailed the same day.  (Please ensure that a copy of the payment details is faxed to the College once payment is made).
  •  The original documents included in the Letter of Offer must be fully completed and signed by the parents, and returned to the College.  No student will be accepted into the College, regardless of payment, unless these documents are returned to the Registrar's office.
  •  If payment is not made by the due date as outlined in the Letter of Offer the offered place may be withdrawn.
