SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AT PRINCE ALFRED COLLEGE
The School proves a number of scholarships each year for boys entering in Years 5, 8, 10 and 11. The following information is for parents wishing to apply for a scholarship for their son to enter Prince Alfred College in 2011.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NEW BOYS ENTERING PRINCE ALFRED COLLEGE
Year 5 2011 Entry Scholarships
The School Council provides scholarships for boys entering the School in Year 5. Each allows up to 50% remission of tuition fees for three years. To apply for a Year 5 scholarship, parents should write a letter outlining their case for the award of a scholarship, commenting on why they want their son to come to Prince Alfred College. This letter should be accompanied by a photograph of the student, copies of recent school reports, reports of state-wide and/or standardized testing, references from people who know the student in various capacities, and any other material considered relevant to the application. The application should also include a short essay from the student, in his own handwriting, introducing himself and saying why he would like to come to Prince Alfred College. Applications close at 5.00pm on 12 February 2010.
Year 8 2011 Entry Scholarships
The Year 8 Scholarships are awarded on the results of examinations conducted jointly with other schools by the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) and will be held on Saturday 13 February 2010. The last day for Registration is Friday 15 January 2010. These scholarship examinations, which are advertised by the Association of Independent Schools Board in South Australia in The Advertiser, are open to students currently enrolled in the Preparatory School as well as those attending other schools. Prince Alfred College accepts online Registrations (click here to register) via our website – www.pac.edu.au Applicants should also send a brief one page resume to the Headmaster, outlining their achievements and reasons for wanting to attend Prince Alfred College. Offers will be made to successful applicants on Monday 1st March 2010.
Years 10 and 11 2011 Entry Scholarships
A number of Entrance Scholarships are available to boys for entry in Years 10 and 11.
Applications should be made directly to the Headmaster. Applications close at 5.00pm on Friday 12 February 2010. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of school reports, references and an interview. Boys and parents should write a letter to the Headmaster outlining their reasons for wishing to attend Prince Alfred College. A photograph of the student and any supporting documentation such as reports, references and certificates should accompany the application.
The Grasby Scholarship is tenable for two or three years and gives full remission of tuition fees.
The Shierlaw Scholarship: Several scholarships are awarded annually and are tenable for two or three years, giving remissions of up to half tuition fees.
Year 11 Students:
The Colin Hassell Scholarship is awarded annually to a student entering Year 11 who is an Australian Citizen or permanent resident in Australia. The scholarship is available to all students in South Australia who will be undertaking Year 11 in 2011 and is to be taken up at Prince Alfred College.The Scholarship is offered in recognition of the contribution to the architectural profession and to the School, on behalf of the late Colin Hassell AO (1910 – 2007) and offers a remission in tuition fees.
Applicants will be considered on their merit, but must be able to demonstrate an ability or interest in design, art, mathematics and/or physics. Ideally, applicants will wish to pursue a career in architecture, design or engineering. Applicants will be required to complete a design assessment as part of the application process. The successful applicant will be requested to undertake work experience in Year 11 with an architectural firm or similar organization, and to study a design subject, or similar, in Year 12.

The Samuel Fiddian Scholarship and the Sir Thomas Elder Scholarship are awarded annually and entitle the winners to full remission of basic tuition for five (5) years.
The J.R. Robertson Scholarship is awarded annually to the top candidate from the Prince Alfred College Preparatory School and entitles the winner to half remission of tuition fees for five (5) years.
The Rolland May Music Scholarship provides half remission of tuition fees. Candidates are expected to sit for the ACER Entrance Scholarship Examination, as well as to show evidence of their musical ability by audition.
A number of Council Scholarships are awarded annually, each tenable for five (5) years and offering at least 25% remission of basic tuition fees.
The James Ashton Prize of $100 is awarded to a candidate from the Prince Alfred College Preparatory School.
Other Boarding Scholarships
The Linden Boer Scholarship and the Norman Jolly Scholarship are awarded to boarding students only, and entitle the winners to at least half remission of tuition fees for up to five (5) years. They are offered to students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend Prince Alfred College and are awarded on the basis of reports, references and interview.
The John Olsson Freemasons Memorial Scholarship provides 50% remission of the boarding fee only.
Applications for Other Boarding Scholarships will close at 5.00pm on Friday 12 February 2010.
